3 Real Media Texts That Inspired Our Group

As our project will be based on a High School drama, we spent a lot of time looking at different high school dramas, being inspired by the conventions used in their titles, in order to make up our own. Below, are three 3 real media texts that we were inspired by, which we shall use to create our own media text.

1. 10 Things I Hate About You.

We like this piece of font for various different reasons. We found that the handwritten element of the font really emphasised the idea of being at a high school, as a student or so would have written the text. We also like the fact that the text is over moving image, specifically an establishing shot. We found that this, overall, makes a good media text, as it really implements the high school element into the title sequence, overall making a well made opening scene.

2. Mean Girls.

We liked Mean Girls' media text for a few reasons. The first was the use of different fonts within the actual title. We were inspired to break the boundary of sticking to one font for our opening piece, and express a variety of styles through different fonts. Another reason was the use of colours. Due to the characters all having different personalities in our piece, we were encouraged to switch up the colours and fonts used in ours, having seen the Mean Girls' media text. We believe it will work really well in terms of reflecting the characters persona and their attitude.

3. Not Another Teen Movie.

Not Another Teen Movie, albeit hard to see via a single image, was actually a very well made media text. The title was animated, which brought a very wacky, energetic character to the film alone, within seconds of watching the opening scenes. We, somehow, intend to have an element of animation to our media texts, along with the different colours and fonts.

These three media texts really helped in shaping what texts we intend on using in our final piece, as they were all inspiring for their own individual reasons.
