Motion is a software that allows you to create your every own title sequence opening. Motion offers a wide selection with 100s of different styles to choice from, it allows you to create something from nothing.

I was taught to always use the 'start with a template' option so we could get the many templates above.
With the 3D text projects it allows you to make your title sequence in all 3D text which you could use to give a different feeling and emotion to the audience.

Production Diary - Filming Session 2

Today was our groups second day of filming - Friday 30th January at approximately 9.30am. We first began with ensuring that we wore the exact same outfits as we did for our first filming session. We continued from where we left off, through going in chronological order of our title sequence. Using the fig rig, we had the camera tracking Seun once he had got off the floor, continuing his journey to college. We then came across the skateboard scene, where we had to create a collision between the two characters (the hipster and the main character). This took up quite a few shots, as we chose to film from different point of views from the skateboard. The collision scene also took up a few shots, as we had to get it accurate in order to make the next few shots successful. We then did a few shots tracking the main character back to the college, where we plan to include a load to title credits. We also filmed the three other cliques entering the gates. If we were to reshoot this day again, we would include more close ups, as recommended.

Production Diary - Fliming Session 1

Filming Session 1

We began filming on Sunday 25th January at approximately 12pm, where we decided to film in chronological order of our title sequence. We began with filming a test scene with the camera - we repeatedly had our main character (Seun) exit Angel station, whilst doing this we decided on our technique of how we are going to track the character after he exits and the camera captures a mid shot of him. We used the fig rig to place the camera on. After approximately 3/4 takes of that entrance scene, we then moved on to the close up of the character, reacting to the next character using the tripod. We then captured a shot from behind character, repeating the same journey of exiting the station. We then moved on to the next character (Emily) who was located across (Outside Starbucks) the road from Seun. We captured a shot from across the road, then close up on the character. We then went back to the other side where Seun was located and his next encounter with the next character (Akrem). For this, we used the fig rig once again to follow Seun's character, then we used it to capture Seun falling down, including close ups and low angle shots. We then finished that filming session - each shot was taken around 3-4 times making sure it was accurate to our plan and storyboard. We encountered problems including the overcrowding of people causing it to be difficult to film, this could possibly resolved through re-shooting at at earlier time, possibly on a weekend again.

Revisions To Pitch & Final Decisions

From our feedback from the pitch, we have taken all comments on board, and we have decided on including changes to our title sequence.
We have decided to include more close ups into our shots. We have also thought to 'go to town' with our mise-en-scene, specifically with the costumes, through exaggerating each character's wardrobe choice. This will clarify each 'clique' we are trying to represent and show to our audience.
We are still considering and thinking about alternatives to the ending of our title sequence.

Pitch Feedback

Feedback on our pitch

Dan did not like the name at first but he warmed up to it when he understood our title sequence.
He also likes the idea and the British take on what is typically an American genre.

Dan thought the storyboard was good but we could "rework the ending of it" and include more concepts and also add more close up shots.
Dan believes it is going to sink or swim on the mise en scene side of things and costume as we have to over exaggerate and "really go to town" and wear the most ridiculous outfit we could come up with. We should go over the top with our costumes to fit our characters.

Detail on pitch

Specific details of the costume that we will be wearing like the mise en scene is reallt good.
More detail with the institution we will be using (universal) in which we forgot to mention in our pitch.
Dan also thought we could include a new character.
We were told we have a good filming schedule by our classmates which is working on Sunday 25th of January and Friday the 30th of January.
We should try keep them to two busy days so the shots can match.
Amy said more detail with the production schedule and another student said they liked our detail about our filming location.

My outfit for my character

This is my outfit for my character.
I choose this outfit because this is a stereotypical outfit for someone from the estates of London.

Character Outfit - Emily

Character Outfit - Shannon

My character plays the role of a stereotypical 'hipster' I have chosen this outfit based on what I have seen and class as 'hipster'. This costume will also include glasses and possibly a beanie hat.

Visually Branding the Blog Design

When changing the design of our blog, I thought that the most appropriate idea is to go with simplicity, linking to our film title 'Average'. Hues of blue are intended to be used throughout this project, as it links to our production company, Under The SSEA, but the colour also has connotations of the 'need for order and direction in life' - linking to the purpose of our film and main character who is a 'regular' guy that does not belong to a clique. The font I have chosen is not too sophisticated and that has a connection to the fact that we are creating a High School drama title sequence.

Character Outfit - Seun

3 Real Media Texts That Inspired Our Group

As our project will be based on a High School drama, we spent a lot of time looking at different high school dramas, being inspired by the conventions used in their titles, in order to make up our own. Below, are three 3 real media texts that we were inspired by, which we shall use to create our own media text.

1. 10 Things I Hate About You.

We like this piece of font for various different reasons. We found that the handwritten element of the font really emphasised the idea of being at a high school, as a student or so would have written the text. We also like the fact that the text is over moving image, specifically an establishing shot. We found that this, overall, makes a good media text, as it really implements the high school element into the title sequence, overall making a well made opening scene.

2. Mean Girls.

We liked Mean Girls' media text for a few reasons. The first was the use of different fonts within the actual title. We were inspired to break the boundary of sticking to one font for our opening piece, and express a variety of styles through different fonts. Another reason was the use of colours. Due to the characters all having different personalities in our piece, we were encouraged to switch up the colours and fonts used in ours, having seen the Mean Girls' media text. We believe it will work really well in terms of reflecting the characters persona and their attitude.

3. Not Another Teen Movie.

Not Another Teen Movie, albeit hard to see via a single image, was actually a very well made media text. The title was animated, which brought a very wacky, energetic character to the film alone, within seconds of watching the opening scenes. We, somehow, intend to have an element of animation to our media texts, along with the different colours and fonts.

These three media texts really helped in shaping what texts we intend on using in our final piece, as they were all inspiring for their own individual reasons.

Locations For Title Sequence

Using Google Maps and our personal experience, we plan to set our title sequence location around the Angel, Islington area. The screenshots above are also set in our planned chronological order: Beginning at Angel Station, then down the road, eventually leading to the Sixth Form College, where our title sequence will end. We chose this location as we were familiar with it and it relates to our High School drama of different cliques on the way to college.

Blog health check 1

You would only have had 10 or so posts by the beginning of term so looking back on the dates posted, it's good to see that you have caught up since then. I would previously have graded you a D, I will now raise this to a C (12/20), though I should note that you have less posts than others in your group. You could also work on extending your writing - when you have finished your next post, ask yourself "is there anything else I can say?" rather than rushing onto the next thing.
Out of your recent work, I thought your post on Shrek was verygood. Please don't forget to post your evaluation of your remake. You use graphics and photos well but don't forgot you can use other methods - Slideshare, emaze - etc

I plan to keep up with my work because at this very time I feel as if I have lacked consistency .

I plan to use slideshare and emaze so I can demonstrate my ability to use different platforms

Blogging Health Check 1

Feedback:

"16/20 – grade A
you have an excellent, detailed blog with loads of well written posts. Well done. I thought a few posts could have a little more detail added to the summary i.e. your post on Genre & Teen vs Youth dramas, and your Audience Research demographic post to show what you've learnt here. Your posts on Conventions are great, really thorough. I'd encourage you to begin experimenting with different types of ICT to vary your presentation - Prezi, Slideshare, emaze etc. In addition, please get an analysis of your remake posted asap. Thanks"

Targets:
  • Add detail to summaries (Genre & Teen vs Youth dramas, Audience Research Demographic)
  • Experiment with various types of ICT (Prezi, Slideshare, Emaze, etc.)
  • Include analysis to '10 Things I Hate About You' soundtrack remake

Order Of Titles Plan

Based on our research into high school dramas, we have created this timeline in an appropriate order for our title sequence. This order was directly inspired by The Princess Diaries, excluding the Film Title at the end.

Font Styles & Type Faces

For each character, we intend on creating titles to fit each personality. For example, Akrem's character  would include graffiti styled text to fit his personality and clique. This is the type of graffiti font that we would like to use because it fits Akrem's characters street mentality and persona.

For Emily's character we want to use a very girly font to fit her whole personality.
It fits her very well as she plays the fashionable good looking girl who is always sipping on a coffee from Starbucks. This is the type of font and colour we intend to use.

This is the perfect font and we would like to replicate this for Emily 'Princess' Moger.

How To Create Sound Tracks In Garageband

When opening Garageband, you must create a new project. The software will give you options of what type of project you would like to begin with. For this, the most appropriate would be selecting the movie option. Garageband then opens up a window for you select the movie you would like to create a soundtrack for.

Garageband then inserts your film, along with a separate sound 'track' from the original recording.

You must then delete that track through pressing [command + backspace] or going to track>delete track.

The bottom right  corner of the page presents 3 small icons - select the first one to bring up all the loops. The window then gives you a selection of genres and instruments where you can chose what you can include in your soundtrack.

Once selected a loop, drag it to the centre, under the last row. To repeat the loop, take the right corner of the loop and drag to how far you want it along with the movie.

Continuously add and edit loops through repeating this process and layering the tracks to your preference.

When completed, export the file through going to the 'share' drop down menu and exporting the movie to MP4.

How To Create Titles in Motion

Step 1. Open Motion

Step 2. Click "Start with a new Template"
Step 3. Choose Template
- The one we chose was looseleaf Lower third. HD
Step 4. Open Template
Step 5. We pressed the text tool
Step 6. wrote up our font, "A Production by Candi Films"
Step 7. We then changed the font of our text, and we could choose how big we wanted our text, what  colour we wanted, if we wanted the text to be close together and if we wanted a shadow/ Glow behind the text
Step 8. We then exported the file.

10 Things I Hate About You - Garage Band Soundtrack Development

From this activity, We have developed our skills and abilities on the Garageband software. From observing the original title sequence for 10 Things I Hate About You, we decided on sticking to the same technique of the sound transition at one point of the sequence. We began with experimenting with the loops available on the software already, and combining tracks to see what would go well with the visuals. We decided on an upbeat soundtrack, that would eventually go from non-diegetic, to diegetic. We also included background sounds that would fit the on-going scene (e.g. sounds of cars moving at a low volume, people speaking etc.) We intend on using Garageband to create the soundtrack of our title sequence.

How To Create Titles In Motion

Motion is a very good software which allows creators to make titles, and specifically manipulate them, creating very interesting visuals. The program allows users to either start from scratch, or start with a template. Students were advised to start with a template, as that would be much easier for them, in creating their own project.

Below shows just some of the templates available for the users to use.

The templates are within an umbrella of different themes, which will help the user in specifying what title they want, according to what conventions there are of their project. For example, if a student were to make a Youth Drama film, they would prefer a serious, straightforward title. Whereas is a comedy project was being created, students could use a wacky, comical title. The title would definitely vary the quality of the projects opening, as it sets the tone for the rest of the film.

As seen above, when you've selected a template, it allows to you manipulate it, which will help create a better title. The title can easily be previewed, colours can be changed, and the movement within the titles themselves can also be rearranged, allowing for a better title.
