We define target audiences as a group of people that a product is aimed at.
It is key to have a target audience for a film, as elements within the film would sell to a range of people it is aimed at. In the 1950s, the genre of teen films began to emerge into the film industry. Although they are labelled as directly targeted at teens, this does not mean they are the only audience. Teen films are often portrayed to have conflict between teens and the 'parent' culture, families, schools and the law.
Not all teen films are based on the daily lifestyle of a teenager, but their interaction with other groups of people. There are two dominant ideas about teen films: they are defined by their audience, and they are not restricted to specific ages, eras or locations.
Possible audiences include anyone who can enjoy stories about adolescence - becoming an adult.
