Reshooting plans due to feedback from Rebecca

We plan to reshoot our work and go into our third filming day as we have found a lot of faults and random long scenes which are unnecessary  

Updated Feedback on Editing

Rebecca looked over what we have edited of our title sequence so far and she mentioned a few changes we should consider.

• Include footwalking
• Include head nodding listening to music
• Include adjusting rucksack strap
• Include shots of hand going in the pockets whilst walking
• Cut to character POV
• Framing: Rule of thirds
• cut to me and Intro me (Akrem) before I trip up seun up
• Shot of my (Akrem) foot and hands then lastly a shot of my face
• I disappeared in my shot with Seun after I trip him up so I need to trip him up and be seen walking behind him when he dusts himself,
• Close up of Seun dusting himself off.
• Skateboard scene with Shannon needs to be shot again 
• Don`t do it in real time (dont show the whole travel to college) 

What I did during our filming

During our filming I did 85% of the filming as I was the perfect height to hold the camera in place to keep the heads of the actors at the top of the shot.
I also played a sort of co director role with Seun as I spent much of my time placing characters in the right place to we could get the perfect shot.
I found it difficult to get the perfect shot when we first started filming so example I struggled to get the perfect height of our tallest character Seun but as we went on I slowly learnt how to get it perfect within  2 or 3 takes.

My feedback

My feedback is from Dan.

"Good blogging so far" he especially mentioned our production diary as "really nice" and he mentioned   the amount of detail we put into it and how we considered all the problems that we may face and how we talked about how we will deal with them. He also liked that I took notes on his feedback when we presented our ideas to the class but he felt like we should "really go to town on the costumes as much as possible".
He also mentioned that we post too many group posts rather than individual post where we can make short posts on our individual contributions and talk about our skill development and what skills we have developed since we started filming.
He also mentioned the unevenness on the title sequence so far because there are too many boring shots of Seun just walking.

Editing Session 3

11/02/2015

Today we are editing the titles on our film as we have all the scenes in the order for the opening film.

We discussed different types of styles and ways to present the titles.

Suen was not present for this editing session.

We began experimenting with different styles of titles and the colour we went for Grey with a blue outline for our main title for our film which is Average.

We discussed as a group that this coming Friday we would re-shoot a few of the scenes for our film opening; including my scenes, the ending scene and the opening bit where the main character walks out of the station.

Reflecting on Editing session

Today we started adding titles in Motion and also used Final Cut pro.

And talked about the different ways to present our titles; we had our first example and idea of what the titles would look like. 

I liked this style of titles and felt like this might be the one we stick with throughout the whole opening scene, however we had the idea to change the colour of the titles with each character that appears; for example shaun's character would be blue and my character (being the girly, popular girl) would be pink. 

Blogging Health Check 2

Good blogging so far. Your production diaries are really nice and detailed and I like the way that you considering problems and dealing with them, rather than just saying "we did x". and I like the way that you are taking note of my feedback as well - though I still don't think you've really gone to town on the costumes as much as possible. You can do diary entries as group posts but should also some add some short posts about your individual contributions. Also consider your skills development - what skills have you picked up since you began. Remember, workshop is open every day for you to add blogs. For your editing blogs, try and include a record of what you learn about Final Cut, different techniques you might try etc.

Remember what I said to you on Friday about the "unevenness " of your sequence so far. There are a lot of shots of Seun walking and much less of the encoutners with the vaiours other characters. Is there anything you can do to overcome this?

I will try and go to town with my outfit so that it has the full attention of the audience so we do not loose them 10 seconds into our opening sequence.

I would also like to refilm some more scenes because we didnt go to town with our costumes so we MUST reshoot the scenes!

I would also like to use workshop more to add blogs and work more on our editing as at the moment thats where I believe we are weak also I`d like to record a video of what I learnt about on final cut pro 

Editing - Film Title Planning

Using Motion, we began deciding on the main title's appearance at the end of our Title Sequence. We initially planned to include our 'Average' film title at the end of our opening sequence.
When deciding on colour, we considered our last shot, where we panned to the sky. So, we used colours that would stand out in front of our sky blue background with clouds.

We created a film title on motion then we transferred it to final cut pro.
After the transfer we looked to check if the colour we used for the background of the panning shot fit the colour of the sky but we noticed that the green we used did not fit at all.





We experimented with a lot of different colours but we decided to use the colour grey with a blue outline to match the colour of Seun's also known as Jack Austin headphones as he is the main character in our title sequence.

Editing Session 2

Today we worked on putting the remainder of our clips we shot together and also worked on the main title for our film which is "Average"
We looked into using different fonts , colours and animation ways to introduce it into the shot.
We also, as a group, decided that some of the shots did not work for our opening scene, for example, the shot with Emily across the street, and we will re shoot it so she is on the same side of the street at Seun so it will look better and work well. Another shot we will re shoot is the last scene with all of us together entering the school -  we will be reshooting next Wednesday.
In editing we realised many shots were just of Seun walking, so we need come up with ways to break these long shots.
Today we also considered our choice into the sound of our title sequence.

Blogging Health Check 2

Grade: A

40 posts at health check 2.  This is looking pretty good Emily - good work.  You have (almost!) kept up to date with everything.  What I need you to work on now is providing more in the way of information around who your target audience is for your film opening.  There is something very brief in the pitch but I need to see much more.  Use the YouGov profiler to identify your average audience member; interview some people from your target audience about what they would like to see in your film.  This should be done quite quickly so that it doesn't get lost in amongst the filming blog posts.
I also want to see lots more individual posts as we move into the filming and editing side of things - you should be reflecting on your contribution to the filming and editing after each session, thinking about what your input was, how successful you thought the session was and what you think needs to be done differently.  But generally - good work.  Well done.
